Dirk Kuyt is hoping that the Dutch Cup can spark Feyenoord’s rebirth

The Dutch outfit Feyenoord has recently experienced a dry run in regards to winning pieces of silverware.

The latest title that Feyenoord won was the Dutch Cup as they overcame FC Utrecht with a final scoreboard of 2-1 when each team faced off on April 26 at the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

This was a very recent title win but it’s the only one that Feyenoord has secured in over 6 years. The Dutch club has clearly been struggling to consistently win big titles or European competitions and the captain of the team Dirk Kuyt is hoping that this recent title triumph can push Feyenoord to a revival, to a new era.

“This must now become a prize that starts a new phase for the club in which more trophies are won. I have won five trophies in five successive years. It feels tremendous and I want that feeling for all in the squad. From now onwards we are going to win more prizes. That is what a big club like Feyenoord deserves. I know it is not the ultimate prize that the supporters are hunkering for but we have to start somewhere,” Dirk Kuyt told reporters.

Feyernoord is positioned in the 3rd spot of the German league, the Eridivisie and it’s enough for them to secure a Europa League spot for the upcoming season. Dirk Kuyt is reaching the 36th age mark and even though he is a consistent starter for Feyernoord, his near-future is unclear as his contract with the club expires at the end of the season and considering that it’s almost over, Kuyt has to consider what to do after the current campaign finalizes.
